Google TV Streamer is an AI-powered replacement for Chromecast

After over a decade, Google has bid adieu to its Chromecast lineup. In its place, the brand has unveiled an AI-powered replacement called the Google TV Streamer.

Google claims that this addition is designed to provide a user with all-around entertainment coupled with a smart home experience. Apart from the sleek new design, it also comes packed with artificial intelligence-driven features.

What is the Google TV Streamer 4K?

Unlike Chromecast, the Google TV Streamer is built to sit in front of your TV, and the brand claims it can improve connectivity with your smart home devices. Google TV Streamer will also be your one-stop shop for over 7,00,000 movies as well as shows from apps like YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, and other 800+ free live TV channels.

Google also mentioned how it will use artificial intelligence to curate personalised content for users. Gemini will also provide detailed summaries, and reviews along with a season-wise breakdown. Apart from this, users will also be able to create a watchlist for every member of the family.

The brand promises a 22 per cent faster processor featuring 4GB RAM and 32GB storage for smooth navigation. Apart from this, it comes with a 4K HDR, Dolby Vision as well as Dolby Atmos support for an immersive, cinematic experience. Lastly, Google has also thrown in features such as Quick Setup, Ambient Mode, Smart Home Integration, and Casting, along with multi-connectivity options.

The set-top box also comes with Google’s redesigned voice remote which offers improved ergonomics, textured design and an optimised button layout. The remote gets a unique voice search option to help find content on TV and even locate it when it is lost or misplaced.

Google TV Streamer 4K: Pricing and availability

The Google TV Streamer 4K is available in two neutral shades: Porcelain and Hazel. The Hazel variant, for now, is only exclusively available on the US Google Store. It is priced at $99.99 (roughly Rs 8,390) and is now available for pre-order via Google Store online.

While it is hard to determine whether or if the company plans to roll it out to a larger audience in the future, the move certainly challenges its rival and puts it closer to Apple TV 4K.
