Google Pixel 9 vs Pixel 9 Pro: What’s different?

To Pro or not to Pro, that is the question

Google Pixel 9 vs Pixel 9 Pro: What’s different?

Google just announced its newest Pixel 9 series earlier this week. The new series now includes four new smartphones, including two Pro models and a foldable smartphone too.

However, the two phones in the series that are going to have users in a split the most are the Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro. If you too don’t know what the exact differences are between the two phones, here’s a quick head-to-head comparison between the two phones.

Google Pixel 9 vs Google Pixel 9 Pro: Design

Both the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro come with new colours and similar designs. These include a matte glass back, a rounded horizontal camera bar and a centre-aligned punch-hole camera on the front.

The only difference here is the colours. While both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are available in Obsidian and Porcelain shades, the Pixel 9 is also available in Wintergreen and Peony, while the Pixel 9 Pro comes in Hazel and Rose Quartz colours. Peony and Rose Quartz may look like close cousins, but Wintergreen and Hazel are significantly different hues.

Google Pixel 9 vs Google Pixel 9 Pro: Display

The Google Pixel 9 comes with a 6.3-inch 120Hz OLED display with 2,700 nits peak brightness, 1080p resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The Pixel 9 Pro also comes with a 6.3-inch OLED panel, but there are some differences.

The panel on the Pro is an LTPO panel, allowing the display to refresh at any number between 1Hz and 120Hz. The Pixel 9 Pro also comes with a brighter display, as the panel can go up to 3,000nits.

Google Pixel 9 vs Google Pixel 9 Pro: Performance

Both the Google Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro are very close in the performance department. Both devices feature the new 4nm Google Tensor G4 chipset, which comes with improved general and AI performance.

However, while the Pixel 9 comes with 12GB RAM, the Pixel 9 Pro comes with 16GB RAM, making it a little more multitasking-friendly when you’re using a large number of apps at once.

Google Pixel 9 vs Google Pixel 9 Pro: Camera

The Pixel 9 Pro has the edge when it comes to camera capabilities. While both the Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro come with a 50MP main and 48MP ultrawide camera, only the Pixel 9 Pro comes with the third 48MP 5x telephoto camera on the back that lets you optically zoom into far away subjects.

The Pixel 9 Pro also comes with a 42MP front camera that is much more high resolution than the 10.5MP one on the standard Pixel 9.

Google Pixel 9 vs Google Pixel 9 Pro: Battery

Both the Google Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro come with a 4,700mAh battery, both of which support 45W wired fast charging along with wireless charging at reduced speeds. So, not a lot of differentiation between the phones in this area.
