Google revealed that the next Android version’s launch will be way early, the opposite of the release timeline of Android 15, which got delayed and is yet to arrive on many phones. Google’s hinted that users can expect the public beta release to be in Q2 of 2025, followed by the stable release.
However, Google still hasn’t revealed its exact release date. But now a report has shed light that Android 16 may launch as early as June 2025. It also reveals the exact release date. So, read on to see Android 16’s release date and its expected features.
Android 16 may release on this date
According to Android Headlines, Android 16 may release on June 3, 2025. This is unlike Android 15, which did not arrive until October. The report further states that Android 16 will be available to both Pixel devices and AOSP on the same day.
This means we may see Android 16 getting rolled out to phones from other manufactures early. While Google hasn’t confirmed the release date, it said that it plans to release the next Android version early so new devices in mid or late 2025 may come pre-installed with Android 16.
So, if Google ends up releasing the Android 16 update in June, expect most premium devices releasing starting July to be running on Android 16 out of the box. This will offer third-party Android phones as well as Google’s Pixel devices an edge as they might arrive earlier than Apple iPhones, that too with the latest software out of the box.

Once Android 16 is released, Google also said to offer smaller updates that focus on features and other improvements. So, expect AI among other features to be gradually added to the OS.
What to expect from Android 16?
While there’s not much that we know about the Android 16, as of now, but some early reports suggest some iPhone-inspired features. Android 16 may bring iPhone’s Dynamic Island-like notifications, basically persistent notifications that stay in the notification tray.
This is currently being called Rich Ongoing Notifications and it may display the charging status, ETA for your Uber ride, and even upload time, for say an Instagram or YouTube video.
Another notable feature expected in Android 16 is about multi-tasking. The OS may let you to run multiple apps and switch between them with bubbles on the screen. So, you can tap on a bubble to open an app and tap on the other bubble to switch to that app.
These are some cool features you can expect in Android 16. But that’s all we know so far about the next version of Android. We should learn more about it closer to its release next year.
