Google Chrome is getting 3 new AI features for better browsing

A lot of us rely on Google Chrome, whether we’re browsing to shop, read or even to prove ourselves right! And Google certainly seems to be taking note of that. In a blog post, the company announced three new artificial intelligence-driven features that could make browsing ‘faster, safer and more helpful’.

3 new Google Chrome AI features to look out for

Google mentions how it plans to bring in three new AI features that will harness the latest Google AI and Gemini models for Chrome. These include Google Lens, Rediscovering Sites and Tab Compare. Here’s how they will work:

AI Lens: Google Lens is a quick and easy way to search what you see using your smartphone. However, the latest Chrome update will integrate its capabilities into your desktop Chrome browser as well. This will typically allow you to select, search and ask questions on the web without having to leave or open a tab.

To do this, all you have to do is select the Google Lens icon present on your address bar. Next, you can click and drag it over your search query or product. You can also trigger Google Lens by right-clicking the three-dot menu on your taskbar. Once done, you will be able to see visual matches as well as results within a side panel.

Further, the brand mentions how you can even use its ‘multisearch’ feature to refine your results with colour, brand or any other detail. You can also add your follow-up questions or dive deeper based on your topic. Depending on your question, Google states how you might get an AI Overview response that will bring in relevant information to you from across the web.

Rediscovering Sites: Google Chrome already has sites that you can visit using the ‘History’ option. However, Chrome will further help make revisiting these sites easier using AI.

All you have to do is access your history and type “Which pizzeria was I looking up last week?”, and Chrome will show you relevant pages from your browsing history. Google also mentions how it will not reference back to Incognito searches.

Tab Compare: If you find yourself jumping between tabs when you’re shopping online, Google has an AI-based solution to help you read reviews and research prices effectively. The new Tab Compare feature will bring in an AI-generated overview of products from across multiple tabs in one place.

So, if you’re looking for a new pair of TWS earbuds for an upcoming trip, all the important product details and reviews can be generated into a comparison table. Chrome will put essential details, products, specs, features as well as price and ratings together, and users will get an insight into this before they make an informed buying decision — and all without having to switch tabs.

When will the new features be available for everyone?

Google’s AI Lens is reportedly scheduled to roll out in the next few weeks. However, the Tab Compare and Rediscover features are initially set to launch in the US as of now.

Google has yet to mention a tentative date for the rest of its markets. However, based on the feedback and popularity, the brand may eventually make it available globally.
