Google Chat users can now send video messages, get voice message transcriptions

Google Chat is finally getting the love it deserves

Google Chat users can now send video messages, get voice message transcriptions

Google is making interactions on its entreprise and business-centric chat platform, Google Chat, more alive and fun. It has announced the support for video messages on the app and has also enabled transcriptions for voice messages.

These new features bring Google Chat in line with its consumer-centric video app, Google Meet, as it already has these features.

Google Chat gets the much-needed video messages support

Google’s chat platform, which is accessible via Gmail or through the Google Chat app, has received the ability to send video messages. Users can send a video message by tapping on the record icon, which is placed just before the send button.

Users can tap on the record button to begin recording a video message. Once a video message is recorded, it won’t be sent immediately, allowing users to rewatch the clip before they are confident to hit send. Similar to text messages on Chat, users can react to a video message with available emoticons.

Sending video messages will surely make interactions on Chat more alive. You can send your video message right away as the feature has already been rolled out. However, if you do not see it yet, wait for it to pop up.

Other than this, Google also rolled out the support for voice message transcriptions. Notably, voice messages on Google Chat were launched last year, and a year later we have transcription support. Transcriptions will eliminate the need to separately jot down notes for a voice message.

Google confirmed that you can’t record video messages on ChromeOS, Firefox, Linux, and the Google Chat app on Android. But don’t fret as you will still be able to see a video message as well as get voice message transcriptions on these platforms. But for sending a video message, you will have to rely on the Google Chat app on your Windows PC or laptop.
