Forgot Your Apple ID password? Here’s what to do

Those not new to the Apple ecosystem are already well-versed with its stringent security for its iOS devices. In fact, iPhones are known to be particularly difficult to break into, and that’s what makes them one of the most secure devices available today. While that is unquestionably an excellent feature to have for your phone, when you find yourself struggling to remember the password, not so much.

While you can continue using your iPhone as usual, forgetting your Apple ID password could prevent you from making any payments or accessing any Apple services, such as iCloud, FaceTime, and iMessage. But before accelerating into panic mode, here are some things you can do.

Resetting your Apple ID password using your Apple iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch

Following simple instructions can help you reset your Apple ID password on any of the given three devices. Below, we have listed down some steps you can resort to if you’re locked out of your smartphone:

Step 1: Access Settings on your iPhone
Step 2: On top of the page, you will find your name. Tap on it
Step 3: Tap on Sign in & Security within the menu
Step 4: You can then go ahead and select Change Password
Step 5: The device should then ask you for your four-digit PIN
Step 6: Follow the instructions on the page to reset your account password

Resetting your password without your iPhone

Resetting your Apple ID password can be challenging if you don’t have your iPhone at hand. However, if you still have someone who can access one or have your Apple Watch on you, there are simple ways to reset it for yourself. Here’s how to go about it:

Step 1: Visit https://iforgot.apple.com/
Step 2: Click on Reset Password at the bottom of the page
Step 3: Enter your email ID and CAPTCHA code as requested on the page
Step 4: Once done, the page will ask for your contact details associated with the ID
Step 5: Once you’re in, a message should pop up on your Apple devices prompting you to Reset Password
Step 6: After you press Allow, you will be led through on-screen instructions to reset your password

Resetting your Apple ID using your Mac devices

Lastly, if you use your Apple ID primarily on your iMac or MacBook, there are straightforward steps that you can follow to reset your Apple ID password. Check them out here.

Step 1: Click on the Apple logo on the top left corner of your screen
Step 2: Select Apple ID in the menu
Step 3: Click on Password and Security
Step 4: You will find the option of Change Password listed in the menu
Step 5: Follow the on-screen message prompts to go ahead and change your password

It is crucial to note that once you’re through resetting your password, you will have to log into all your Apple devices once again to get it functioning. It is best to have it noted down as soon as you reset it and also to log into your devices while it is fresh on your mind!
