CMF Phone 1 is an affordable phone you can actually play around with

Nothing sub-brand CMF has been known for its less-flashy, non-transparent, but still quite visually flamboyant accessories. These include GaN chargers, TWS earbuds and even smartwatches, but today, the brand has launched its first smartphone. The CMF Phone 1 borrows a lot from the Nothing Phones, but it is neither a watered-down version, nor a cheaply put-together budget phone.

No, the CMF Phone 1 has its own identity and is one of the more interesting devices that has launched in the past few years, especially in this segment. Here’s everything you need to know about the CMF Phone 1, what makes it unique, and how you can get your hands on one.

CMF Phone 1: What’s new?

The CMF Phone 1 comes with a modular back panel, complete with a few screws, and a SIM ejector pin that comes with a screwdriver for the same. Opening the four screws on the back panel and unscrewing the rotating circle on the bottom allows you to remove the back panel of the device.

The back panel can be swapped with three other panels, letting you basically change the colour of your phone – something that was actually quite common with phones when back panels were still replaceable.

Changing back panels is not all though. The CMF Phone 1 also comes with its own ecosystem of accessories that can be fastened to the back panel with the rotating dial on the bottom. This includes a lanyard, a magnetic wallet case or even a kickstand. CMF may even introduce more accessories moving forward.

The modular design also lets you mix and match elements to get your own look on the phone – for instance, an orange back panel with a black dial on the bottom. Lastly, the removable back panel also makes this phone easy to repair as there are no adhesives between you and the motherboard and other internal components.

CMF Phone 1: Specifications and features

The CMF Phone 1 comes with a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 2000 nits peak brightness. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, and comes with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.

There’s also up to 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and despite its modular back, the phone is rated IP52 against water and dust protection.

The CMF Phone 1 comes with 50MP rear camera and a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls. It is also powered by Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.6 and comes with support for up to 2TB expandable storage.

CMF Phone 1: Pricing and availability

The CMF Phone 1 is priced at Rs 15,999 while its accessories will be priced at Rs 799. The phone will be available with leading retailers in a 6GB RAM and an 8GB RAM variant. If the modularity doesn’t appeal to you, however, you can go for other options like the Redmi Note 13 5G and the Vivo Y28 5G.
