OpenAI just announced a dedicated ChatGPT app for Windows. The news comes a few months after going live with a similar app for Mac users. The decision, which was primarily aimed at making AI more accessible, will soon be available to select Windows desktop and laptop users.

According to OpenAI, a Windows app for ChatGPT was built to cater to the growing demands for artificial intelligence. While the web version continues to function alongside, the company goes on to state that the app will help users tackle their day-to-day tasks with ease.

With this new app, Windows users will be able to quickly launch it with an Alt + Space shortcut. Apart from that, ChatGPT for Windows will also be able to analyse files, images and do nearly everything a smartphone app or web version can do.
That said, OpenAI mentions how the newly introduced Advanced Voice Mode is currently missing on the desktop app. The company also hasn’t mentioned when the addition will be available to all of its users.
How to download the ChatGPT app for Windows
ChatGPT app for Windows is currently available for early testing, and users can download as well as install it with a few simple steps. Here’s how to go about it:
Step 1: Visit https://openai.com/chatgpt/download/ and click on the option that reads ‘Test an early version of the Windows app’
Step 2: You will then be redirected to the Microsoft Store, where you will have to click further to complete your download
Step 3: Once downloaded, you will be prompted to sign in and should be able to begin using the app
That said, it is crucial to note that if you’re looking to test the Windows app but don’t have a ChatGPT Plus subscription, you will have to pay Rs 1,650 a month, for now.
While it’s currently unclear if or when OpenAI plans to roll out a stable version of the app, the company has promised a ‘full experience’ to all its Windows users later this year.
