ChatGPT app rolls out for Windows laptops and desktops; here’s all you need to know

It’s been nearly two years since ChatGPT, one of the biggest names in the generative AI business (and arguably, the one that started it all), was rolled out. Now since then, OpenAI has consistently introduced new features to the AI chatbot, which have ensured users are left with very little reason to find fault with it.

A major drawback of the platform was the lack of native availability on Windows and macOS devices, though, the latter of which the company finally did take care of in May. However, a dedicated ChatGPT app still remained elusive for Windows devices. Until now that is. The company has (finally) launched a native ChatGPT application for Windows, and here’s all you need to know about it.

ChatGPT app for Windows: What’s there to know?

ChatGPT is now available as a dedicated app for all Windows laptop and desktop users with both, free and paid accounts. And it’s got a couple of features which will make life at work infinitely easier.

First off, there is Advanced Voice Mode, which allows you or engage in a natural conversation with your PC, asking it your queries. This is especially useful while juggling multiple tasks at work. Apart from that, to ask it queries about what’s on their screen, one can also take a screenshot and ask ChatGPT to analyse it.

The second feature is an integrated web search tool, which allows users to directly look up the answers to their queries on the internet, from within the app. A search feature within the chat history also makes it easy for users to find and resume old conversations that they may have left midway.

The ChatGPT app for Windows laptops and desktops is compatible with both Windows 10 and Windows 11, and can be launched directly from the home screen using the ‘Alt+Space’ shortcut.

These features, coupled with the fact that the application is available to use for both the free and paid users of the platform adds to its utility all the more.

Having said that however, the app does lack one significant feature, which is currently available only in the version for MacBooks and iMacs. The macOS app includes integration with several coding applications, and this has not been incorporated into the Windows version yet. It also remains unknown as to when, if at all, the feature will be added.

How to try out the ChatGPT for Windows?

To try out ChatGPT on your Windows machine today, download the application from the Microsoft Windows Store today. Once downloaded, click on the app and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up. Log in to your account, and you’re good to go!
