Over the years, TWS earbuds have maintained a consistent design philosophy. You get a stem-like profile, such as the Apple AirPods, or one that snuggly fits in your ears, like the Sony WF-C series of earbuds. While we have seen some unique designs, like the Nothing Ear (Open) or the Bose Ultra Open, they mostly cater to audiences in the premium price segment.
But then comes BoAt with its latest TWS earbuds, called the Airdopes Loop. This is essentially a pair of open wireless earbuds that come with a unique clip-on design, 12mm drivers, and a promise of delivering long battery life – all at an affordable price point. Having used them for some time, here’s our detailed BoAt Airdopes Loop review.
BoAt Airdopes Loop design and fit
Let’s start with the Airdopes Loop’s rather unconventional design. BoAt calls it the clip-on design, where the earbuds clip onto your ears like a pair of good-looking earrings. Since these are open-ear earbuds, they do not offer a snug fit in your ears but rather sit next to your ear canal.
When you remove them from the plastic charging case, you will immediately notice how light they are. That’s due to their glossy plastic and matte rubber built. While fitting them in your ears might not look easy, after a few tries, you’ll easily wear these like a style accessory.
The earbuds are made of two pieces – the earpiece that sits next to your ear canal and an accompanying piece that goes behind your ear to offer a tight hold. Due to this unconventional design, you may take some time to get used to wearing them. But once you do, you’re likely to find these earbuds more comfortable than any regular pair of TWS earbuds. That said, design is always subjective, so your mileage may vary.
BoAt Airdopes Loop audio performance
Coming to sound, the earbuds boast 12mm drivers that we feel could have been tuned better. Don’t get me wrong, the earbuds offer loud sound with decent mids and highs. However, the overall sound felt a little flat. The bass isn’t too punchy either, which is due to the open design, but it gets the job done for casual music listeners.

Buy nowThis means that you will be fine if you just want to groove to the latest trendy tracks. However, for a more audiophile-like listening experience, these earbuds may not cut it for you. That’s because there’s little to no instrument separation here. But this is something you can expect with a pair of earbuds in this price range.
Also, a lot of it has to be the design bit, the open-ear design is never meant to offer an immersive experience. But as mentioned above, for some casual listening, you can surely enjoy putting them in your ears.
One thing to note here is that since the earbuds have an open-ear design, you can’t really wear them outdoors. Well, you can try, and I did the same, but I had to play the music at the highest volume to listen to any vocals.
Indoors, however, you can easily enjoy listening to Arjit Singh’s soulful tracks. For me, the best use-case for the earbuds was in office, where I could not only hear music, but also listen to what my boss was saying sitting right behind me.
BoAt Airdopes Loop battery life, pairing
In terms of battery life, the earbuds offered a full week of usage at about 60 per cent volume. Charging the earbuds was quick, thanks to BoAt’s ASAP charge, which offers up to 200 minutes of playback with just 10 minutes of charging.
As for the microphone, BoAt has offered four microphones on the earbuds, and they did a great job of picking up my voice while reducing unwanted noise in the background. However, the overall audio captured by the microphones lacked depth and sounded a bit muffled.
One area where I was disappointed with the earbuds was connectivity. Despite connecting the earbuds to my iPhone multiple times, they still didn’t automatically get paired when opening the case.
Also, sometimes, the left earbud got paired, while I had to begin the pairing process all over again for the right earbud since it refused to automatically pair. So the entire pairing process was a bit cumbersome and tiring.
Unboxed Take: Who should buy the BoAt Airdopes Loop?
So, the question is should you purchase the new BoAt Airdopes Loop? Well, if you are bored of earbuds that sport same old design and want to try something new, then these could be the right earbuds for you. Also, if you are someone who wants to listen to music while being aware of your surrounding, then this is a great pair for indoor usage.
This is why we rate the earbuds 3.5/5.
However, if you are someone who likes to get immersed in the music, then you might want to look for a regular pair of earbuds with an in-ear design. Some alternatives in the same range include the CMF TWS earbuds and the OnePlus Nord Buds 3.
