Best apps for custom ringtones and notification tones on Android phones in 2024

Ringtones and notification tones are a great way to customise your smartphone in a way that reflects your style and identity. If you use an Android smartphone, you’ll also have a bit more freedom to choose the kind of ringtone you want, whether it’s your current favourite musical track, something funny that you can joke about with your friends, or even a devotional song or tone which makes you feel at peace when you receive a call or message – the possibilities are endless.

While you can always choose from the ringtones that come pre-installed with your smartphone, greater customisation is possible through various apps. These can let you choose from different tunes and trim them to make good ringtones or notification tones, or even let you download specially created and curated tunes to set as your ringtone.

Check out this list of four such apps we put together.

Best apps for ringtones and notification tones on Android

1. Zedge

2. Pi Music Player

3. Ringtones for Android

4. RingWall

1. Zedge

A long time ago – many years before modern smartphones could connect to the Internet easily and download connected apps – Zedge was a popular website for ringtones and wallpapers. Of course now it’s an app on Android, and one that is rather comprehensive when it comes to finding you useful and interesting ringtones and notification tones across various genres and types.

It gets Indian, global, as well as devotional music, and the app also lets you directly set it as your phone’s default ringtone without having to go through the settings. What’s more, ringtones of your choice are trimmed to convenient lengths and proper starting points for your phone automatically.

Zedge has paid plans which eliminate ads and give you weekly credits to download new ringtones and wallpapers. However, you can download many ringtones and notification tones for free through the ad-supported tier, usually by watching an ad in exchange for the ringtone. This can get a bit annoying, but it’s one way to keep things light on the pocket.

2. Pi Music Player

Pi Music Player is not a traditional ringtone app, in the sense that it doesn’t curate tones for you to download. It’s typically a music player app to play audio files and tracks that you might have downloaded on your smartphone. But it does come with a rather useful ‘ringtone cutter’ function which lets you trim existing tracks on your device to convenient starting and ending points, as well as to your desired length.

The ringtone cutter tool not only helps you find audio files on your smartphone, but also gives you a clean visual interface to trim the clip, exports it into the correct format, and lets you apply it as your ringtone directly from within the app, without you having to go through the settings. If you have a good collection of audio tracks, use this to turn them into ringtones with minimum effort.

3. Ringtones for Android

Ringtones for Android is an easy-to-use app with lots of popular ringtone options that are easy to find and set. The app covers various genres and languages, including lots of options in Indian languages. The list is frequently updated, keeping up with trending and popular tracks and tunes across various categories, such as TV shows, popular tracks, classical music, and short tones for notifications.

The app is heavily ad-supported, but this also allows you to download many of the ringtones and notification tones for free. Others classify into a premium tier, with monthly, yearly, or lifetime price bands for you to choose from.

4. RingWall

Similar to the previous apps in this list, RingWall presents all of its ringtones in a colourful and clean interface. The app offers ringtones covering various genres and categories, including cover versions of popular tracks. You can directly set these as your ringtone, alarm, notification tone, or specific ringtone for a particular contact, from within the RingWall app itself.

RingWall is ad-supported so you’ll have to watch a few ads before getting access to ringtones, and there is a paid tier to get access to all content and do away with the ads. However, many of the ringtones in the app are available for free, if you’re willing to wait and watch the advertisements.

Give these apps a whirl, and customise the ringtone and notification tones on your Android smartphone for a truly personalised user experience.
