5 best 5-star ACs in India in 2024

5-star ACs are generally more expensive to buy, but the lower energy consumption significantly lowers running costs

5 best 5-star ACs in India in 2024

One of the most important and often overlooked factors when purchasing an air conditioner is its star rating. This rating indicates the energy efficiency of the AC you’re purchasing, with the difference in power consumption between a 1-star AC and a 5-star AC being as high as 50 per cent.

This is important as over the lifetime of the product, a lower-rated AC will consume more power and generate larger electricity bills than one with a higher rating. The upfront cost might be low, but the higher cost of a 5-star AC can easily be offset by its lower energy consumption over its lifetime. Now, let’s look at the best options available in India.

Top 5 5-star ACs in India

To make your search easier, check out our pick of the best 5-star ACs that are available today:

1. LG 6-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star dual inverter split AC

2. Voltas Vertis 2-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter window AC

3. Daikin 1.5-ton 5-star inverter window AC

4. Panasonic 7-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC

5. Samsung 5-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC

1. LG 6-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star dual inverter split AC

Top of our list is this TS series AC from LG. The LG 6-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton AC has a cooling capacity of up to 5,800W, but it manages all this while drawing a maximum of 1,284W from the wall. This AC is packed with features, chief among them being its dual inverter and dual rotary compressor design which allows it to quickly and easily switch between a power-efficient mode and a turbo cooling mode. There’s even a rapid cooling mode for instant comfort.

2. Voltas Vertis 2-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter window AC

The Voltas 185V Vertis Elite Marvel has a similar 5-star rating and 1.5-ton capacity, but this is a window AC and significantly cheaper than the LG model listed above. The power consumption is a little higher at 1,640W, but this is still significantly lower than the 2,000+ Watts that most 3-star ACs consume. This AC also supports turbo cooling for rapidly cooling your room on demand.

3. Daikin 1.5-ton 5-star inverter window AC

Daikin is a Japanese company and one of the largest AC manufacturers in the world, and the Daikin 5-star rated window AC consumes 1,570W of power while having a cooling capacity of 5,000W. It’s also rated to move a commendable 690 CFM of air, which is quite high for an AC in this price bracket. One of our favourite features on this AC is the Econo mode, which limits the cooling capacity of the AC to 70 per cent, making for an even more sustainable, energy-efficient investment.

4. Panasonic 7-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC

Panasonic’s 7-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC is a smart air conditioner with an impressively low 1,290W power consumption rating. Cooling capacity remains excellent at 5,100W, and airflow is a very reasonable 630 CFM. Being a smart AC, this Panasonic model sports Google Assistant and Alexa integration, meaning you can use a smart speaker or smartphone to control the AC and its functions.

At a little over Rs 50,000, the price is on the high side, but the power consumption is one of the lowest in its class and long-term energy savings should be significant.

5. Samsung 5-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC

The Samsung 5-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC is great for rooms that require high airflow and constant cooling thanks to a high, 682 CFM rating for airflow. Being a 5-star rated product, energy consumption is fairly low at 1,380W, but cooling capacity remains at a high of 5,000W. Smart digital inverter control allows this Samsung AC to vary its power from as low as 40 per cent to as high as 120 per cent for optimal cooling performance. It also features a wider inlet and wide blade fan to help improve airflow performance.

Before settling for a budget for your AC, calculate the running costs by factoring in run time over at least 10 years, power consumption, and electricity costs in your area. Add this to your purchase price for an idea of what the total running cost of the AC will be for its lifetime. More often than not, this number will be far lower than that of a similarly priced or cheaper AC with lower star ratings. It’s best to plan ahead and reap the rewards in the long run.
