It isn’t exactly a surprise that handheld gaming has taken off in India about a year after we saw a rise in handheld gaming on the global level. Recent launches like the Sony PlayStation Portal as well as slightly older handhelds like the Asus ROG Ally are now available in India. However, that hasn’t stopped brands from launching newer, more powerful versions.
The latest of these is the Asus ROG Ally X, which packs some neat upgrades over its predecessor, including better battery life. Here are all the new changes.
Asus ROG Ally X: What’s new?
The Asus ROG Ally X comes with a 7-inch 1080p IPS display, which supports 120Hz refresh rate and is now protected by Gorillaz Glass Victus. The response time of the panel is 7ms and it can output up to 500 nits brightness. You also get support for FreeSync Premium and 10-point multi-touch.

Powering the Asus ROG Ally X is the same 8-core AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor which is based on the Zen4 architecture and can clock up to 5.10GHz. This is coupled with AMD Radeon Graphics with RDNA 3 tech. The ROG Ally X comes with 12GB+12GB LPDDR5x RAM and a 1TB SSD storage unit, which can further be upgraded to 4TB.
Other features here include more grip across the body of the console and larger bumper buttons. The Ally X also comes with Hall Effect triggers, which use magnetism to minimize friction and significantly reduce wear-and-tear and other issues. The console packs dual speakers with Dolby Atmos and a lifetime subscription to Dolby Access.
Lastly, the Asus ROG Ally X offers twice the battery capacity over its predecessor, offering 80Wh cell instead of 40Wh. It also charges faster with 100W wired charging instead of 65W.
The Asus ROG Ally X comes with two USB Type-C ports, one of which offers USB 4 support. It weighs 678 grams and Wi-Fi 6E support. The Asus ROG Ally X is priced at Rs 89,990 in India, and will be available starting today.
The price for the premium handheld console is high, so if you’re someone who doesn’t want to spend that much on a portable machine, you can always get a decently powerful gaming laptop at that price. Some options include the Lenovo LOQ 15, as well as the HP Victus 16.
