Here’s the ABCs of India’s first officially available handheld gaming console

Asus ROG Ally is a handheld gaming console coming to India

The Asus ROG Ally is the latest addition to the gradually growing market of handheld consoles – devices that bring the power of PC gaming to the palm of your hands. This will allow you to take your gaming stations to college, work or pretty much anywhere else. Unfortunately, consoles like Valve’s Steam Deck have so far not been available in India. But that is set to change with the Asus ROG Ally.

Asus India recently announced that the ROG Ally will be launching in India and is likely to be the first handheld console since the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) to officially be available in the country. While rivals like the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck can be purchased via third-party sellers, the ROG Ally will be available from Asus directly, which adds perks like an official warranty.

Whether you’re planning to try out handheld gaming, or have simply been waiting for an India launch of the console, here’s everything you need to know about the new Asus ROG Ally.

Asus ROG Ally specification and features

The ROG Ally has a 7-inch FHD IPS display and maintains a 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen offers 500 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth gaming. There’s also Corning Gorilla Glass protection for durability.

The handheld console is powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme chipset, which includes eight Zen-4 cores and AMD Radeon Navi3 graphics. This is coupled with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB SSD storage.

The Ally runs on Windows 11, which sets it apart from consoles like the Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck, which run their own proprietary software. Windows 11 allows the device access to multiple game platforms like Steam, and Epic Games or services like Xbox Game Pass.

Asus ROG Ally price and availability

Asus ROG has not confirmed the price or launch date for the device yet. We also currently do not have a date for the Asus ROG Ally India launch yet, although it is expected to take place in the following months. The ROG Ally gaming console is priced at $699.99 (approximately Rs 57,300) in the USA. Whether the Indian price is close to that figure is only something time will tell.
