Apple Music has quietly rolled out a new feature referred to as ‘Discovery station’. As the name suggests, this new feature is designed to help users find songs that they may like. The feature is live on the mobile, desktop as well as web apps.

Interestingly, as per 9to5Mac, Apple Music users have reported spotting Discovery Station intermittently on the app for a year or so now. The feature therefore may have been in testing for a fair amount of time before its roll-out.

What is Discovery Station?

Discovery Station plays a selection of music curated on the basis of the genres and artists one has been listening to recently. To access the same, one needs to head to ‘Listen Now’ and look for the feature under the ‘Stations for you’ section.

Discovery Station works alongside the station, which is created in one’s name, with the latter featuring music one has already listened to and saved in their library, as well as new music. However, the former, also curated according to user tastes, exclusively plays songs not saved on their library or playlists.

It is important to note that, unlike playlists, stations in Apple Music have no limits when it comes to the number of tracks. If one prefers to use playlists however, Apple Music also creates playlists that update weekly, with the key difference being a fixed, finite number of songs on them – 25 each.

Spotify, one of Apple Music’s biggest competitors, also recently introduced a similar feature, referred to as the Discovery Weekly playlist. The playlist which is curated on the basis of user preferences pertaining to genres, artists, and the like, shuffles once every week to help users discover new music.

Furthermore, they also support Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, which is not available on the Voice plan.
