Apple MacBook Pro 2024 launched with M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max chips

Apple’s week of announcements has been going pretty good so far. iOS 18.1 brought iPhone users their first taste of Apple Intelligence, the new Mac mini is the mini-est desktop Apple’s ever made, and the colourful iMac now gets even more colours and an M4 update. However, one major announcement was still left out, and it’s safe to say that the cat’s finally out of the bag now.

Apple has announced the new MacBook Pro variants, now powered by the latest M4-series chipsets. The new MacBook Pros have no major design changes, and rather, focus on upping the hardware of the laptops. Here’s everything you need to know about them.

Apple M4 MacBook Pro: New specifications

The M4 MacBook Pro comes with two screen sizes – 14 inch and 16 inch. You can get either with the vanilla M4 chip (8-core CPU and 8-core GPU), along with 16GB RAM now.  There’s also the M4 Pro MacBook Pro, which comes with a more powerful 14-core CPU and a powerful 20-core GPU. This is clubbed with 64GB unified memory, and Apple claims the new GPU should offer twice the graphical performance as the standard M4.

However, if that’s still not enough, Apple also has the M4 Max MacBook Pro, which bumps those numbers up even further. Now you get a 16-core CPU, a 40-core GPU and up to 128GB unified memory.

Apple M4 MacBook Pro: New features

Specifications aren’t everything, and Apple also has an optional nano texture display upgrade for the new M4 MacBook Pro that reduces glare and reflections. The display panels can also now go up to 1,000 nits, and offer a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. A 12MP Centre Stage camera is also a part of the new MacBook Pros, nestled in the notch on the top of the screen, just like the M3 series MacBook Pro.

While the M4 MacBook Pro comes with Thunderbolt 4 ports, the more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro variants come with even faster Thunderbolt 5 ports, which offer even faster data transfers with external drives, while doubling as external display routing ports.

Apart from this, the new MacBooks feature one HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, one MagSafe 3 charging port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Unsurprisingly, the new MacBooks also support Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and Notification Summary Previews.

Apple M4 MacBook Pro: Pricing and availability

The new MacBook Pro with an M4 chip starts at Rs 1,69,900. The more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max chipsets start at Rs 1,89,900 and Rs 2,09,900, with prices for all three variants depending on the exact configuration you choose. The laptops will go on sale from November 8.
