Apple has officially set the ball rolling for 2023 with its first new offerings for the year – the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. These new chipsets replace the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors respectively, and also further mark Apple’s shift away from Intel processors in its laptops and other products.
Apple M2 Pro processor
Th M2 Pro processor features either a 10 or a 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, resulting in performance at least 20% faster than the M1 Pro. The M2 Pro model features 200GB of unified memory bandwidth and up to 32GB of unified memory, allowing for users to work on large projects and run multiple pro apps with ease.
Furthermore, the GPU has up to 19 cores, which delivers 30% better graphics performance, while the Neural Engine is 40% faster, allowing for machine learning tasks such as video analysis and image processing to happen much faster. All of this, while consuming extremely little power.
The same allows for rendering titles and animations in Motion to occur up to 80% faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro currently on sale, and 20% faster than the previous generation M1 Pro processor. Image processing in Adobe suite apps on the other hand, is now up to 40% faster than the M1 Pro processor.

The M2 Max processor has a 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance and four high-efficiency cores which deliver up to 20% greater performance over the M1 Max, as well as a more powerful media engine than M2 Pro, with twice the ProRes, helping speed up media playback and transcoding.
It also has a much larger GPU with up to 38 cores, resulting in 30% faster graphics performance than the M1 Max. Furthermore, it has 400GB of unified memory bandwidth, twice that of the M2 Pro. The 96GB of unified memory enables performing graphics intensive tasks with ease, including creating scenes with extreme 3D geometry and textures, or merging massive photographic panoramas.
