Apple’s iPhones, iPads and MacBooks get so much attention, it’s easy to sometimes forget the gem of a device that the Apple iMac is. Thankfully, the iMac is still a contended for the world’s best AIO (All-in-one) desktop, because Apple has just launched the new 2024 iMac M4 with a load of performance improvements, spearheaded by the new M4 chipset.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new Apple iMac M4, including price, features and specifications. Let’s go.

Apple iMac M4: What’s new?

The new iMac is powered by the M4 chipset. It is the first Mac and the second Apple product to be powered by what is Apple’s most powerful in-house chipset at the moment, following the new iPad Pros.

The new chip is not just more powerful and efficient than previous generations, but it also lets the new iMac support Apple Intelligence out of the box (as long as your language is set to English-US). This powers several AI-powered features like Apple’s system-wide Writing Tools, Notification Summarisation and more.

Design-wise, the new iMac looks almost exactly like the older iMac, but Apple has thrown in a splash of new colours to mitigate that. This includes green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. All iMacs will also come with a colour matched Magic Keyboard as well as a Magic Mouse – with the newer version for both now sporting a USB-C port for charging.

The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display now also comes with a nano-texture glass option that Apple claims will drastically reduce reflections and glare without compromising on image quality. Apple claims this will allow users to place the iMac in even more spaces like a living room full of natural light or a storefront.

The iMac M4 also comes with some other new additions. This include the new 12MP front camera, now embedded in the top bezel of the machine. This camera supports Centre Stage, as well as Desk View – a feature that lets you showcase your desk in the same camera at the same angle, to share notes, a whiteboard or something similar.

There are four USB-C ports on the new iMac, and all of them support the Thunderbolt 4 standard. This ensures superfast data transfers, as well as seamless connectivity to larger external displays, external storage units, and docks. The iMac M4 also comes with a three-microphone array, a six-speaker sound system, and macOS Sequoia out of the box.

Apple iMac M4: Pricing and availability

The new Apple iMac M4 is available in two variants – one with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, and another with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU.

The 8-core iMac M4 is priced starting at Rs 1,34,900 and can be configured with up to 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage. Keep in mind that this version only comes with two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports.

Meanwhile, the 10-core iMac M4 comes with up to 32GB RAM, 2TB storage and four Thunderbolt 4 ports. This version of the all-in-one desktop costs Rs 1,54,900 for the base variant and goes up with higher configurations.

That’s the new Apple iMac M4 in a nutshell. If you’re however, looking for something more affordable and/or Windows-based, you can check out all-in-one desktops like the Dell Inspiron 24, or the ASUS 27-inch AIO, which also offers a larger display.
