Android Auto will now save your car’s parking location; here’s how it works

We’re sure many of you love your cars. Whether you use it for long drives on weekends or the everyday commute to work. However, at the same time, one thing you also probably hate is the hassle of having to find a spot to park. But, more than that to remember where you parked it. To help with that, Google Maps has introduced a feature called “Save parking location.”

While it was already available on Android devices and iPhones, the feature is now being expanded to Android Auto. First spotted by 9to5Google, Google has quietly added a new toggle to the Maps application for Android Auto, which lets you save your exact parking location when you arrive at your destination.

The toggle appears only when you navigate to a specific location and shows up on arrival. Here, one can tap on save parking location, which will save that information to your account, and even send you a reminder for the same the next day.

How to save your parking location on Google Maps

Here’s how to save your parking location on Google Maps for Android Auto.

1. Open the Google Maps app on your car’s display.

2. Click the blue dot on the map, which shows your location.

3. On the bottom of the screen, find the option that says, “Save Parking” and tap on the same.

And that’s it. Now, when you open Google Maps on the way back to your vehicle, it will guide you to the same using a red marker. Say you want to delete the location, to save a different location later. Here, all you have to do is click “More info” on the spot and then hit the “Clear” option.

This feature ensures drivers don’t have to pull their smartphones out to save their location while parking the car and manually saving their location. They can do so via a simple tap on their in-car display, which also syncs this information to the Maps smartphone app, ensuring all their focus remains on driving.

Google itself says that the feature can narrow your location down to 20 metres. Therefore, while it may not help you track your car down amidst a sea of cars down to the last step, it certainly ensures the area within which you may have to look for it is relatively small and can be covered in a few steps.
