5 dos and don’ts for safe hair straightening

Hair is the first impression of any woman and the long locks can fascinate any person easily. With millions of style tips and hair dressing designs, open straightened hair is the most handy and indeed the most elegant choice of all the options available. While some people tend to have naturally straight hair, others use heat products, beauty products and cosmetics to achieve the same. Hair straighteners being the most common one. But these common straighteners carry uncommon hair problems with them if not used properly and effectively. Here is how you can keep your hair healthy and safe from straighteners!

5 things to avoid while straightening your hair

Even though it has its own disadvantages, straightening your hair once in a while makes you look different. Keeping certain things in mind, you can reduce the possible damage that may happen to your hair

Do not use straighteners on wet hair

People tend to forget that straighteners are also low-heat products. Even though they aren’t as powerful as curlers, they are still electrically heated, which then straightens the hair. Do not use any such product on wet hair. Blow dry or naturally dry your hair and then proceed with styling.

Avoid taking too much volume in one take

When you are straightening your hair, take little sections and strands of your hair and gently press the two divisions of your straightener over them from top to bottom. Cover the entire length in one take and press the machine tightly but gently.

Rinse properly when you want to get back to the normal hair

When you wash your hair after straightening them, it is highly advisable to use a conditioner since your hair is very likely to be frizzy and rough. Apply conditioner and rinse it thoroughly and gently with finger movements in the length of the hair.

Do not apply too much serum

Serum is used in two different ways – one after straightening and second after the wash. After straightening, your hair readily looks sleek and shiny so you should avoid applying too much serum. As you are already using a conditioner while taking a bath, you do not need to apply serum after that. Even though you do, just a few drops of the serum are sufficient.

Avoid using heat products on a daily basis

Do not fully depend on these heat products and especially not every single day. Straightening remains for as long as three days if you choose not to wash your hair and hence, twice a week is still not a very bad option.

Things to keep in mind before permanent hair straightening

Before you decide to permanently straightening for your hair, know that it’s not easily reversible and you won’t ever be able to get your natural hair back completely. It becomes tougher for permanently straightened hair to style in other ways like beach waves and soft curls and you won’t be able to experience it all.

Keratin treatments are obviously nutritious to the hair, but the damages that the heat causes show their effect gradually. Once every six months or so, you need to go for a renewal of the straightening.

Hair straightening is pretty common these days and with the right tips and tricks you can manage to make your hair look gorgeous and at the same time, damage free and healthy. Low-heat products should be used and avoid everyday usage of such products and you’re very good to go.
